OUR STORY

Welcome to Americana Fabrics (formerly Affordable Fabrics)!

Our fabric journey began in the '70s when David Taylor, a former Ames Department Stores buyer, founded what is now our family's fabric legacy. David had a knack for making deals and his ability to buy fabric in large quantities inexpensively became his recipe for success and continual growth.

From the very beginning, we offered affordable fabrics to a diverse group of people with equally diverse needs. Many of our customers built entire wardrobes from our fabric, some created clothing and items for special events, others added on to existing clothes with accessories. Culture-specific clothing can almost be impossible to find in retail outlets, but the fabric could always be found in our stores.

Today, our stores serve the needs of thousands of in-home clothing designers, wardrobe creators, crafters, upholstery manufacturers, umbrella makers, actors, performers, and nationalities from across the globe. At Americana Fabrics, our mission goes beyond offering affordable fabrics. We strive to create an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome, enabling individuals to express themselves through unique styles that truly represent their identity. Americana Fabrics has become a symbol of personal freedom and self-expression.

Over the last 50 years our fabric stores have been cherished stops for fabric enthusiasts throughout New England and we're excited to bring that same experience to our newest location in Waterford, CT. In May of 2023, Dean and Angela Taylor transformed Waterford's former Americana Furniture building into a haven for fabric enthusiasts, complementing our sister location in Rocky Hill, CT and other locations in Pawtucket, RI, and Auburn, MA. When you step into our Waterford warehouse, you'll find a diverse collection, from Cotton, Denim, Leather, and Linen to Flannel, Fleece, Corduroy, Silks, Terrycloth, Velvet, Vinyl, and more.

And now, we're thrilled to announce the addition of our online shopping experience. Whether you prefer the tactile pleasure of in-store browsing or the convenience of shopping from home, Americana Fabrics is where every thread tells a story. Explore our collections, express your creativity, and make Americana Fabrics your destination for a vibrant and inclusive fabric journey.
